Klondike, my parents' dog, died last Saturday morning, on February 20th.
Last week my mom had sent me an email saying that he wasn't doing well, so we all knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it any less sad... Ariel came in the room and saw me crying after I told Greg about Mom's email. She asked, "Mama, are you sad?" I told her yes, I was. We asked her if she remembered Klondike, and she said yes (she still looks at a flashcard with his picture on it sometimes), and we told her that he's very sick. She must have heard me say that he wasn't eating or drinking because she said, "Klondike needs to eat food." We told her that he just doesn't want to eat right now, and she asked, "What does Klondike need?" So we told her that he just needs to be loved, and given lots of hugs.
On Monday I was on the phone with Mom, and started crying. Ariel asked, "Mama, are you sad?" and I said, "Yes, Baby, I am." She came over and gave me a hug and told me, "Don't cry..." I couldn't help but smile through my tears. She's such a sweet girl.
